The law here in Illinois is that you can turn left on a green light (yielding to oncoming traffic, of course) unless there is signage to say you can't. Well, since part of the rule is to yield to oncoming traffic, there is a big piece of judgement used in making these turns.
On my way home from taking my little one to the pediatrician this morning, I ran into this situation. I am a fairly cautious driver when it comes to yield situations and I had a VERY aggressive driver behind me. Twice HE thought I could have gone, so he kept honking at me. When I did turn, he sped up to pass me before the street narrowed to one lane. I wasn't surprised when this fancy red sports car with a middle aged driver passed me. To top it off, he was rude. He wasn't looking at the road and was gesturing, etc. I was relieved when he turned and got out of the way.
He may have been right, maybe I could have turned earlier, but with a baby in the car I would rather not take the chance of trying to go and being wrong.

This happens to me a lot when I have my granddaughter in the car. I think I am naturally more cautious then. I've been flipped off, yelled at and otherwise gotten made faces. I don't care. She comes first. Just let it run off your back. :)
